The World Bank’s 2025 World Development Report, “Standards for Development,” shines a spotlight on Korea’s remarkable transformation, featuring it as a leading example of how strategic standardization can drive national progress. Korea’s journey—from postwar recovery to becoming a global technology powerhouse—is presented as a case study in the deliberate use of standards and quality infrastructure as core instruments of industrial policy and export competitiveness. The report details how Korea’s government-led approach, robust legal frameworks, and coordinated public-private investments enabled the country to embed quality and innovation into its industries, ultimately positioning Korea as an active author of international standards in advanced fields like AI and 5G.

 

2.    International Carbon Market Discussed at the International Carbon Market Investment Forum Read here (Korean)

As part of Korea’s ongoing commitment to carbon neutrality and global climate leadership, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) organized the Global Carbon Market Investment Forum in Seoul, gathering more than 150 experts and stakeholders from international organizations, multilateral development banks, governments, and the private sector. The forum served as a dynamic platform for MOEF to introduce innovative strategies for enhancing the credibility and transparency of international carbon markets, with a particular focus on advancing the Global Voluntary Carbon Market (GVCM) and integrating cutting-edge digital and AI-driven MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) technologies.
